Monumental Liberty Lights

INTRODUCTION World firsts are always exciting and invigorating. Following landmark performances at the Eiffel Tower and during the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris, French artist and music producer Michaël Canitrot brought his artistic vision to another of the world’s most iconic monuments: the Statue of Liberty. Collaborating with show director Romain Pissenem from High Scream, Michaël became the first DJ ever to perform at the Statue of Liberty in Upper New York Bay with Liberty Lights, a unique production created as part of the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. Robe lighting was super proud to be part of the art! Michaël Canitrot conceived the overall artistic direction for Liberty Lights, drawing on the creative vision behind his Monumental Tour, which brings electronic music, visual arts and cutting-edge technology into dialogue with some of the world’s most iconic architectural and heritage landmarks. Robe iBOLTS, MegaPointes and iSpiiderXs helped bring this spectacular visual experience to life, as light, music and monumental architecture merged into a unique performance also marking 140 years since the inauguration of the Statue of Liberty, an enduring symbol of freedom and Franco-American friendship. Watch Liberty Lights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujvri0fQvSY THE BRIEF Translate Michaël Canitrot’s overall artistic vision for Liberty Lights into an elegant, simple and impactful lighting treatment that kept the Statue of Liberty firmly at the centre of the visual composition. The lighting needed to integrate precisely with the laser mapping, enhance the monument’s architecture without overpowering it, and provide effective illumination for Michaël Canitrot and 20 dancers for filming and broadcast. iBOLT – FRAMING AN ICON WITH MONUMENTAL POWER AND PRECISION Position Positioned in two rows in the middle of the Statue’s three main base levels, with six fixtures to the left and six to the right, and used as super-bright beams to vertically frame and delineate the monument. Challenge The fixtures needed enough scale and presence to stand up to the 93-metre Statue while remaining precise and controlled, complementing the multi-faceted laser mapping and respecting the monument's protected status. Key benefits Super bright Powerful, clearly defined beams Precise and controllable Flexible Reliable Strong architectural framing at scale Quotes and references Romain: “We needed elegance, simplicity and impact in equal measures.” Ian: “Maintaining the integrity and poise of the Statue at all times was key and the iBOLTS and MegaPointes were central to that concept.” Ian: “The architecture helped establish the best lighting fixture positions by effectively making some natural suggestions.” Ian: “The iBOLTS delivered the defining lighting gesture of framing the Statue with powerful vertical beams.” MegaPointe – LAYERING DEPTH AND ATMOSPHERE Position Positioned on the first and third tiers of the Statue's base to create depth and layered effects. Challenge Delivering dynamic effects while complementing the intricate laser mapping. Key benefits Excellent depth of field Precise effects Seamlessly integrated with other fixtures Quotes and references Ian: “Bright, flexible, reliable sources that enabled us to achieve all the desired lighting effects.” Ian: “Added depth to the overall picture that was an asset for the film crews”. iSpiiderX – ESSENTIAL ARTIST ILLUMINATION Position Positioned at each corner of Michaël Canitrot's DJ booth to provide the main key lighting. Challenge Delivering clean, consistent illumination for the artist while keeping the Statue as the visual focal point. Key benefits Bright, even key lighting Excellent colours Reliable output Flexible positioning Balanced artist illumination Quotes and references Ian: “Excellent for key lighting in this context.” CONCLUSION Exceptional teamwork, meticulous planning and technical innovation from all the production teams – including the film and broadcast crews – combined with an extraordinary sense of energy and historic occasion to make Liberty Lights a truly unique production. Conceived under Michaël Canitrot’s overall artistic direction, the project brought together electronic music, choreography, lighting, laser mapping, architecture and film around a single creative vision, while always allowing the Statue of Liberty to remain at the heart of the experience. Robe has been an enthusiastic supporter of Michaël Canitrot’s Monumental Tour for several years, with its products featuring in a number of previous productions at exceptional heritage sites. With Liberty Lights, this creative relationship entered a new and historic chapter: Michaël Canitrot became the first DJ ever to perform at the Statue of Liberty, bringing the artistic philosophy of the Monumental Tour to one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. Robe was proud to contribute to the realisation of this ambitious artistic vision and to be part of a landmark moment connecting music, technology, heritage and light.

Moorea Festival France 2026

INTRODUCTION The Maatea (main) Stage at the 2026 Moorea Festival in France featured an impressive array of international electronic and EDM artists and an equally dazzling lighting design by Loic Esparraga – of Paris-based design studio, MIND – with 48 x Robe GigaPointe moving lights at the core. The festival was staged in the gardens of the majestic and beautiful 11th-century Château de Grillemont at La Chapelle-Blanche, south of Tours in France’s Indre-et-Loire region – a perfect summer environment for hosting the “Island of DJs”. THE BRIEF During the day, the need was for subtle lighting to highlight the depth and overall scenic texture created by the careful blending of stage and lighting designs, allowing the stage geography to stand out. At night, the stage was transformed into a completely different space by the GigaPointe beams and their powerful and spectacular effects. GIGAPOINTE – NEW AMAZING MULTIFUNCTIONAL LUMINAIRE Position The fixtures were installed on 6 vertical columns – integrated as part of the scenography – 8 fixtures per column, equidistantly spanning the stage. Challenge Delivering a hugely impactful look and atmosphere and complementing the video content that featured erupting volcanoes and other natural phenomena, “reinforcing the visual universe,” explained Loic. Key benefits Super brightHighly VersatileFastBeams Clearly Visible in DaylightTruly Multifunctional – which, together with speed, is vital to produce the array of infinite eye-popping effects needed to make dance and EDM events shine. Quotes and references Loic: “The integrated rotating bar is particularly interesting, as it offers so many highly dynamic effects possibilities.”Loic: “The GigaPointe’s extremely powerful laser source output ensured that we could make strong visual statements, even over long distances.”Loic: “Combined with all the other features, GigaPointe is a potent, contemporary multi-purpose fixture ideal for all types of shows and events.” iFORTE – MODERN & BRIGHT WORKHORSES Position Two rigged on the Layher structure and another two iFORTES used to front light the artists. Challenge iFORTE was chosen because it is a powerful fixture with excellent framing shutters and perfect for picking out the details of the 12-metre-wide logo, positioned 14 metres up on the main stage structure. Key benefits Super BrightAccurate ShutteringVery Reliable Quotes and references Loic: “I always find a suitable solution using Robe, consistently meeting the demands of our projects.” CONCLUSION The layout of the six columns of GigaPointes was instrumental to utilising the entirety of the stage dimensions – both horizontally and vertically – a geometric harmony that provided a balanced visual presence of all elements, with the fixtures a natural integrator / interpreter between the scenic fabrics and video surfaces. Two Maatea Stage artists – Timmy Trumpet and Trym – brought their own lighting operators this year, who also appreciated the GigaPointes!

Followspotting Metallica’s M72 World Tour 2026

INTRODUCTION Metallica’s record-breaking M72 stadium tour continues playing sold-out venues across Europe in support of their eleventh studio album, 72 Seasons, a phenomenon that started in 2023. The tour features an impressive 120-foot wide, in-the-round stage designed by Dan Braun, including a centre-ring pit area, and lighting designer Rob Koenig is utilising 16 x Robe iFORTE LTX Follow Spots and an 8-way RoboSpot system to ensure that the band can always be clearly seen by fans from all around the venue, and also that they look great on camera. THE BRIEF Rob needed a high-quality follow spotting and key lighting solution for the tour, and having successfully used RoboSpot for several years, it was a natural choice. The iFORTE LTX FS fixtures were an upgrade for the 2026 edition of the tour, where they had previously used 16 x Robe BMFL WashBeams on the RoboSpot system. IFORTE LTX FOLLOW SPOT – BRIGHT, FLEXIBLE, HIGH QUALITY LIGHT Position Two iFORTE LTX FS fixtures each were positioned on eight 30-metre-high towers erected around the stadium field and focused on the central stage. Each tower is rigged with LED screens and each of these have ladder torms extending down the full length of the screens. The two fixtures at the bottom of each ladder … are the follow spots. Challenge In the round shows are always galvanising to light and require precision positioning of the follow luminaires. As always, it is essential that follow spotting and key lighting make the artists look great, both live and on camera, and Rob is constantly aware that they should feel comfortable while looking into the follow spot beams and not have to squint or shade their eyes from the glare. The near throw from the spotlight to stage is approximately 14 metres and the longer throw – to the other side of the stage – is around 35 metres, however, depending on the venue and the stage layout, the longer spot throws can be up to 50 metres, so fixtures with plenty of power and punch were needed. Key benefits PowerfulHigh-quality light outputHigh CRIProduce excellent flesh tonesLook great on cameraComfortable for artists to look at Quotes and references Rob: “Firstly, these fixtures are very comfortable for a performer to look into – my job includes ensuring that any artists feel as comfortable as possible on stage … while still being able to launch rockets off their faces.”Rob: “The iFORTE LTX is an excellent light, the power really shines through, especially on longer throws.” ROBOSPOT SYSTEMS Position The 8 x RoboSpot BaseStations were located under the grandstands at each venue, near to dimmer and video worlds. Challenge Remote control of the follow spots offered spot-on, very accurate and safe control from the eight different positions around the stadium. Key benefits The fixture parameters could all be run from the lighting console – the LD has many more options for specifying which parameters are controlled from the desk and what is under the control of the follow spot operatorsActivating the tracking zoom parameter from the RoboSpot stations keeps the spot in proportion as the artist moves around the stage / performance spaceNo people working at heights during the show Quotes and references Rob: “The operators handle all parameters or just a single one like we are doing here, so depending on the gig, the follow spotting can be as simple or as complex as I want it to be.” CONCLUSION Utilising the flexibility and precision of RoboSpot combined with the power, quality and finesse of the iFORTE LTX Follow Spot fixtures provided Rob with a safe, dynamic and adaptable follow spotting solution for large outdoor shows, whatever the weather. It is essential that 360-degree shows look the same from all angles, and using this system helps achieve that goal.
