Alternative rock and pop band Café Tacuba - from Ciudad Satélite, Mexico - recently played to 230,000 music fans at the Ciudad Deportiva venue in Nezahualcóyotl, with a lighting design created by their regular LD “Tiffy” Castellanos which included 40 x Robe ROBIN Pointes.

To provide such a quantity of Pointes, three rental companies - LED Project owned by Sergio Serrano, Fade In of Chucho Guevara and Vatel Producciones headed by Miriam Villalobos - joined forces … with excellent results.

It was a free concert and part of Nezahualcóyotl’s 51st anniversary, and although Café Tacuba has a musical career spanning 25 years, this was the first time they had performed in the city.

The 40 Pointes were located on the stage floor and also distributed over a series of curved trusses standing behind the band as part of the set.

Tiffy, who had already used Pointes at the end of last year after recommendation from the band’s producer Sergio Serrano, explained that the design for this show was based on the one they have been touring for the first months of 2014 tour … but with the Pointes added to make it that bit extra special!

“The Pointes are simply spectacular! Their performance was amazing again, and I like the gobos best! I haven’t used gobos for the last 10 years, and now, thanks to Pointes giving a fresh meaning to the concept … I have started using them again!” he enthused.

The Pointes were revealed for the first time during the show in the fourth song of the set - ‘Las Flores’ – which had a massive impact.

Tiffy has worked for Café Tacuba for five years and has also been using Robe products for several years, but more specifically since Robe’s products have gained popularity in Mexico, which started with the ColorSpot and ColorWash series.

“I think Robe fixtures are fantastic and I am very happy they are available in Mexico. This provides a wider variety of options for designers and show specifications, and I will absolutely be using Robe in my future projects,” he concluded.

Tiffy’s career as a lighting professional stretches back 22 years, having started in a small Mexican rock club called Rockotitlan in Mexico City where they had only a few PAR 64s in the rig!

After more than two decades, he has worked with some of the most important artists and bands in Latin America, including Molotov, Juanes, Ana Gabriel, Cristian Castro, RBD, Caifanes, Alejandra Guzmán and Café Tacuba, among many others.
